Our Livestock
At Sun Kissed Ridges, our carefully chosen livestock work in harmony with the land, embodying our commitment to regenerative farming, ethical stewardship, and exceptional meat quality.
British White Cattle
British White cattle are a heritage breed with deep roots in England. They are known for their distinctive white coats with black or red points. This hardy and docile breed traces its lineage back centuries and is prized for its meat quality and adaptability.
During World War II, the breed faced a significant threat. As Nazi forces advanced across Europe, fears of a potential invasion of Britain grew. Concerned that the breed could be lost if England fell to German occupation, a decision was made to send a herd to the United States. This strategic move ensured the preservation of British White genetics, securing their future beyond the uncertainty of war.
Unlike larger, modern commercial breeds, British Whites retain a smaller, more efficient frame. Their moderate size means they require less feed, produce less impact on pastures, and are well-suited for small-scale, regenerative farming. Their natural foraging ability and ease of handling make them an excellent choice for managed intensive grazing systems.
When it comes to meat quality, British White beef stands apart. It is known for its fine-grained texture, exceptional marbling, and clean, rich flavor, which balances tenderness with a robust beefy essence. Unlike heavily marbled Wagyu or leaner commercial breeds, British White beef offers a natural, well-rounded eating experience—ideal for those seeking high-quality, grass-finished beef with superior flavor and texture.

Katahdin Hair Sheep
Katahdin sheep are a hardy, low-maintenance hair sheep breed developed in the United States for their superior adaptability and meat quality. Unlike wool sheep, Katahdin's shed naturally, eliminating the need for shearing and allowing them to thrive in diverse climates with minimal intervention.
Their resilience and efficient grazing make them an excellent choice for regenerative farming. Katahdin's naturally improve soil health through targeted grazing, helping to manage pastures, reduce invasive plant species, and enhance biodiversity. Their moderate size and calm temperament also make them ideal for small-scale operations focused on sustainable land stewardship.
Our pasture-raised and grass-finished Katahdin lamb is known for its mild, clean flavor and tender texture, distinct from the stronger 'gamier' taste often associated with wool breeds. Lean yet well-marbled; it offers a perfect balance of richness without excessive fat—providing a premium dining experience for those who appreciate high-quality, naturally raised meats.
Berkshire Pigs
At Sun Kissed Ridges, our approach to raising pigs is guided by a commitment to sustainability, regenerative farming, and producing the highest-quality meat. Through hands-on research and experience, we have raised and evaluated a variety of breeds—including Yorkshire x Duroc, Duroc, Hampshire x Berkshire, and Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPP)—to determine “what right looks like” for our farm.
This journey has led us to the Berkshire pig, a heritage breed renowned for its exceptional marbling, rich flavor, and ability to thrive in a pasture-based system. While each breed brought valuable insights, Berkshires align best with our mission of producing premium meat while enhancing our land’s health. Their natural foraging ability supports soil aeration and nutrient cycling, making them a key part of our regenerative practices.
Our pasture-raised Berkshire pork delivers an unmatched depth of flavor, tender texture, and juicy marbling—what many call the "wagyu of pork." By selecting the best breed for both our farm and our customers, we ensure that every bite reflects the care, ethics, and sustainability that define Sun Kissed Ridges.
